Bitok Earns All-BIG EAST Accolades

BRONX, N.Y. -- Senior John Bitok earned All-BIG EAST honors by finishing eighth at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship on Oct. 31 at Van Cortlandt Park. Bitok completed the 8,000-meter course in 24:49 to lead the Orangemen to a seventh-place finish with 213 points. It was the men’s best showing at the conference championship since the squad placed seventh in 1987.
It is the second straight year he has been a member of the all-conference squad. He also placed eighth at last year's league championship meet with the top 15 finishers making up the All-BIG EAST Team.
Georgetown placed five runners in the top 10 and finished with 29 points to claim the men’s team championship. Villanova’s Jonathan Fasulo won the men’s race with a time of 24:35.
Sophomore John Graham was SU’s second finisher, placing 44th and posting a time of 26:43. Freshman David Wishart finished right behind Graham with a time of 26:44 to claim 45th. Freshman Matt Lawson placed 53rd, completing the course in 27:11 and sophomore Chris Muldoon finished 63rd (27:48).
On the women’s side, Christine Ramsey paced SU finishing the 6,000-meter race in 23:34 to claim 57th place. The Orangewomen finished 12th in the team standings with 344 points. Notre Dame won its second-consecutive conference championship, scoing 59 points. Providence’s Kim Smith won the women’s race with a time of 20:01.
Junior Leah Folmsbee placed 58th, completing the course in 23:34. She was followed by senior captain Lauren Rich, who posted a time of 24:24 to claim 74th. Syracuse’s next finisher was fresman Shelby Perkins (75th, 24:33).
Syracuse will compete at the NCAA Regional meet on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
